One of the branches which does not get its due visibility, but which has huge potential is Commerce. In this article we will discuss whether commerce is a good optionCareer Counselling Guidance for students.
With 10th results announced and 12th results expected any time, it is time for students to decide which group and which course to pursue.
Generally in South and particularly in Tamil Nadu many students prefer taking first group ( Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology) . There is a perception that first group has huge potential. However if you look at North, Commerce is a much sought after group post X standard and a preferred course in college.
For us to understand the importance of Commerce course we need to understand the organisation structure of most of the organisation
CEO ( Chief Executive Officer) heads the organisation and CFO ( Chief Financial Officer) becomes no. 2 in the organisation. CFO will be a commerce graduate. In several companies all other functions report into the CFO which includes Legal and IT.
In most of the companies the top most position a person with IT Background can reach is the CIO ( chief Information officer) and he in turn reports into the CFO.
A finance graduate can not only become the CFO , he can also become the CEO ( no. 1 in the company)
Also the no. of steps an IT graduate has to climb to become a CIO is much much higher compared to the steps a Finance graduate has to climb to become a CFO.
A CFO is the one who ensures that the company nos. are good , is profitable and it is growing.
Also students can pursue CA or ICWA after completing 12th Standard itself. Students can also take up these courses while pursuing B. Com or any other graduation in college as well.
With the threat of AI impacting IT, it is time for all of us to understand that commerce is a smart choice for students across the country
