With all the confusions happening around NEET, there are students who do not want to look beyond MBBS , however what is interesting is there are plenty of options available for one to choose in Medicine beyond MBBS.

Firstly if some one wants to pursue MBBS he/she has to understand that just doing MBBS alone is not going to be sufficient. Necessarily one has to do MD or MS and DNB etc. Many of these include competitive exams like NEET and one has to gain experience as well as to prepare for these . Effectively a medical student has to be prepared to spend at least 15 years of his life in higher studies if he wants to take up MBBS.

Now let us look at alternate options in medical course counselling for students

Firstly we would suggest to take up BHMS or Homeopathy stream. Here what we understand is syllabus is similar to MBBS except for approach towards medicine. Also Homeopathy doctors do not go through stress as their focus is not towards emergency cases . Hence they can always maintain a work life balance. We have seen several Homeopathy doctors who are most sought after wherein one has to wait for multiple weeks to get their appointment. Also there have been few allopathy doctors who had suggested to get treated with Homeopathy for certain problems and were told that Allopathy and Homeopathy can work together.

Next come Siddha, (BSMS) this is another traditional medicine system from Tamil Nadu. If you are not convinced of the capabilities of Siddha, you need to visit the Siddha Hospital in Tambaram, Chennai where you will find long queues of patients. However what I understand is it will be suitable if you have a reasonably good knowledge of Tamil . Once again there have been several success stories of Siddha treatment addressing several skin issues in a short span of time compared to other streams.

There is another course called BNYS which is Bachelor of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences. Here approach is to solve problems permanently naturally.

In the case of BSMS and BHMS cut off marks are far far lesser compared to MBBS. In the case of BNYS it does not NEET scores is what I understand.

Also there is always an option of Dental. BDS, once again cut off marks will be relatively lesser . Also it is not a 24×7 job where one has to handle emergencies. We understand that there are solutions given by Dentists where cost can be as high as 1 Lakh and more. Moreover in the current situation where lot of junk food is being taken, every one needs support from Dentists. Also Dentists will be managing one throughout the life as one ages, he will face issues of teeth falling etc. Dentists also ensure that your way of life is not impacted as well as ensure that your smiles are beautiful by giving right solutions.

Best part is all the above practitioners are also called Doctors and they can get admissions much easily compared to MBBS doctors.
