How to get selected in VC interviews

In the current pandemic situation we come across 2 sets of individuals. One who have many offers and wondering which job to take and the other who is hardworking individual, good in trouble shooting but finding it difficult to crack the interview.

Our focus is to enable the second category of individuals to clear the VC interviews/

Success involves preparation and hard and smart work. So the first task for an individual who has got a schedule for an interview ( Video conference) is to start preparing for it immediately as soon as you have received the schedule if not much earlier/

First please do some home work on the company, their turnover, their clients and their offerings/

whenever you get a chance to talk to the HR person, who has scheduled the interview for you , try to get details on the names and designations of the interviewers.

Once you have these details , do some homework on Linkedin to get clarity on their interests, their background etc. This will enable you to prepare yourself for the kind of questions that you can anticipate from them.

Just to give you an example, when I had attended an interview with the hiring manager of a MNC after clearing the HR Round with the CEO and HR, he had asked me whether I will be able to get ITIL Certification for his company. It so happened that when I had earlier looked at his Profile , it came out that he was keen on ITIL. Unfortunately I had not prepared at that point of time and had to give him a roundabout answer.

Similarly the person who is your interviewer might also have been a person with a long stint in the same organisation that he is adapted to their culture and their terminologies that he might not be able to co-relate equivalent terms. Hence the more terms that you use which are given in their offerings or services it will be more advantageous to you/

Before the interview it will be good if you can test your microphone and Video conference facilities .

During the day of the interview, as much as possible, please be in formal wears and be well groomed. I have seen people coming up in a very casual way for interviews and they loose out on their first impression.

Mostly the interviewer will ask you to explain about your background, so have a clear story line to explain the same sequentially. Have seen candidates struggling to even mention the year they had completed their Schooling or college etc. When you explain, please emphasise on the areas on your experience which are similar to the work that you are going to do with the new employer. It is always better to fine tune your positioning about yourself in line wtih the job . For eg. while taking up an interview for a delivery posiiton, there is no point in explaining too much on your sales experience or vice versa.

Finally be candid, when it comes to answers and admit if you do not know something . Nobody knows every thing.

We hope that this gives you a fair idea on how to get selected in a job interview .

Wish you all the best !!
